Beginning with the start of Spring Session, league fees will be increasing to $30 per team per week. This will be our first fee increase in the 12+ years we have been in business.
Half of the increase in fees will serve to boost the players' fund. This will enable us to implement the Tricup format we discussed a year ago. Beginning with Summer 2007, we will be holding Tricup tournaments at the end of each session. These tournaments will help us manage the size of the field for Team Regionals, and will also provide some pretty significant monetary awards for some of our teams. We will continue to award end-of-session point money, but the point money checks will be a bit smaller. The biggest concern in our discussion last year was that captains use those checks to reimburse themselves for money paid out of pocket for forfeits, etc. There will still be enough in the checks to cover that (if not, then you need to get some new teammates). Between the additional fees and reclaimed point money, there should be about $13,000 to $14,000 per session to award via Tricups! By increasing in Spring Session, we will be able to build a small reserve to keep the Tricup awards the same each session, regardless of the length of the session.
The other half of the increase will be for us. Our costs have NOT remained constant for 12+ years. We have been able to provide an excellent product and great service to our members over the years, despite the fact that inflation has caused prices to increase approximately 42% over that time period. We want to continue providing our members the quality of product and service that we think they deserve, but to do so means increasing our prices.
At $30 per team per week, APA leagues are still the best entertainment value around. In fact, we are still one of the lowest-priced APA leagues in the country. Most of the country has been charging $35 to $50 for some time now, but we don't think we'll be hitting that level any time soon. While we can't promise that it will be another 12+ years before we have to raise our fees again, we can guarantee that you will continue to receive the best product and best possible service at the lowest possible price for the forseeable future.
