I have talked with other masters div' players who would like to see our format adapt to all the pro rules in the respective formats. For 9 ball it's almost Texas express, but why not follow them completely?
IE. the 3 foul rule and use of a jump stick, etc.. most of us are use to and know this format, We think it would be great to play with the pro rules it would make our game better. Thanks

Larry, you need to update your manual. The most recent edition, published a year ago, says this:
EQUIPMENT - In general, any piece of equipment designed
specifically for pocket billiards, with the exception of jump cues
and laser devices, is acceptable in APA League play. Special
equipment, such as bridges and cue extenders, are legal. Jump
shots are legal, when executed properly (see JUMP SHOTS described
in Definitions), but such shots must be attempted using
your regular game cue. Those cues especially designed for jump
shots MAY NOT be used in competition. Players are not allowed
to break their cues down to attempt jump shots.

It isn't the 'jump cue' that the APA doesn't allow. The Apa's rules, specifically state that a player may shoot ONLY with the same cue for an entire game. (Exceptions would include using a break cue for breaking only, or if a cue becomes damaged of which it is usually respectful to point out the purpose for the exchange with the opponent so they are not mistaken at the point the cue is broken down or exchanged. Does apa allow jump cues? Hell what deminsions constitute the pole as a jump stick? Ive seen them shorter than half a cue and fat like a dowel with a Rubber tip. Not leather but rubber. It would jump teh ball straight up like crazy nutz. I just hope they dont start drug testing. |

I think the rule about jump cues might be one of debate. not that I'm not completely for it, having added the ability to use the cue when necessary, however, the majority of the locations we play have house rules, that prohit 'jumping' and masse. Regardless of whether our rules allow the use of these elements is irrelevant if a house rule prohibits them. I believe Phil & Taz would also add that the Houses Rules supercedes any bylaws we may add. |

BigSi, perhaps the best thing to do is have a players' meeting for Masters Division and set some Local Bylaws. The APA Triple Play Masters Format specifically states "APA Game Rules apply"; however, we can make some exceptions (which will have to be approved by the National Office) in Local Bylaws. |
