The state of Nevada recently passed legislation restricting smoking in Las Vegas hotels, restaurants, and convention venues.
Effective Dec. 5, 2006, no smoking will be allowed in the Riviera Hotel in any corridors, retail areas, convention areas, Kristofer's Restaurant and Bar, BB’s BBQ (formerly the Buffet), Kady's, Ristorante Italiano, the Food Court, any of the show rooms, elevator lobbies, hotel room corridors, front desk lobby or in any offices or any other non-gaming, indoor area.
Smoking will only be allowed in the Riviera Hotel casino proper, at bars located in the casino (including the Splash Bar), and in designated smoking areas on the exterior (outside) of the convention center and pool area.
Penalties for violating the no smoking ban may be assessed against: 1) the person who is smoking in a non-smoking area; 2) the operator of a business that fails to enforce the non-smoking requirement; or 3) both the smoker and the business. Any person who violates the provisions of this enacted state law could be liable for both criminal and civil penalties. A person who violates this new law can be cited for a criminal misdemeanor and be assessed a $100 civil fine per violation.
This means smoking will no longer be allowed at the APA National Championships held in the Riviera’s tournament rooms in April and August.
For years, we’ve received numerous complaints from members about the smoking in the tournament rooms; however, we were hesitant to make a change, fearing smokers would simply move into the hallways, creating a much worse situation for everyone.
Despite the fact this will affect many of us personally, we believe it will be a very positive development for our members and their experience at our events.

Though we appreciate your efforts to inform our membership of the latest news, someone is a little behind on their reading. The non-smoking venue news was posted in the Southwest Challenge forum on Jan. 9, 2007.

Hey Jason
Thanks for the info, most of it has already been discussed on here. However I did not know about the penalties for violating the law. That is nice to know.
I have a question for you. What are you the public relations manager of?
