Another one of those questions that I keep getting different answers on.
If your team wins the regular season championship in a 12+ team league, do you have to follow that season with a certain finish to keep your eligibility for the regionals? I've heard 6th place or higher and even 4th place or higher, which seems tough. We were not playoff winners, but regular season & we are not in danger of finishing lower than 4th this season, but curious minds want to know!

it's all good - I do know this is the place for expert advice. You all know how game night is....beer, pool & dimwits giving advice (me especially!)...that's why I come here.
Taz - I have an interesting (for me anyhow) roster question...how can I e-mail you or would you prefer a call? Jim asked me to call Sunday (i.e. Easter) since he was sick, but I had a ham to cook...sorry anything involving ham or bacon always takes precedence over competitive social activities.

I'm not sure what you are apologizing about, since no apology is necessary. All of our league members are welcome to post questions, concerns and requests for rule clarifications. Sorry if we(I) ever made you feel otherwise.
As to you teammates, tell them to give you a break. You obviously just want to be (correctly) informed and other than reading the entire manual and bylaws or calling the league office, this is the next best way to get the answers to your questions as well as feedback from fellow players who have been around a while. |

Yes, it has been a while...I was kinda sorta "asked" not to post so much by my teammates & neither they nor I had really done anything dumb enough to warrant a question lately. 
Apologies - I didn't even know that part of the rule book existed. I would like to say that all my questions are put up here to get "expert" advice & answers. They are definitely not meant to annoy the those who run the league. Honestly, there is so much hearsay and opinion from players, and well, you know what they say about opinions...

Hello stranger. Haven't heard from you in a while.
To answer your question, refer to the APA Team Manual, Tournament Information & Rules, page 84. 6. 50% Rule for Qualified Teams, which in part reads "...Teams that do not finish in the top half of their division in the session(s) following qualification are subject to heavy scrutiny of their handicaps and/or loss of eligibility".
I'm sure you are smart enough to figure out why that rule was added (hint: there are some unscrupulous teams out there).
As to your comment "It is probably a league condition in our division", the only difference in a division of 12+ teams from any other division is the first place team at the end of the regular session advances to Regional (bypassing playoffs) and the playoff winner also advances. |

Tx - as always Torsten....It is probably a league condition in our division & it does make sense. What I was told by a certain un-named captain who may or may not be a guy I play league pool with every week, is that we had to finish in the top 6 in the following season after winning our division in order to keep our regional qualification. Knowing this guy, whose name may or may not be J**, he was probably trying to keep us motivated & sober....(he knows us pretty well).
As I mentioned, it's a non-factor at this point, we're in 2nd place with 2 weeks left. With no chance of catching #1, it's all about the "fun factor" now & maybe a little about playoff seeding. Oh ya, and that MVP thingy.
p.s. - you & I evidently have mutual friends in the Simi area - Mailman Mike, aka, MikeR, aka Mike. Too bad I moved out of the 805, sounds like a fun league out that way. Of course, that in no way is meant to diminish a certain Wednesday night SFV league that I may or may not play in, on a team with wonderful captain. |

Not a hundred percent sure of what you're asking. If I interpret your question correctly the answer is the following. In divisions of twelve teams or greater, the first place team gets an automatic bid to regionals. To my knowledge, there isn't a minimum finish to retain that bid in the next season. however, what you're hearing probably has to do with this. If a team wins their division, they're probably pretty good. So if they finish in last place the next season, it could potentially raise some eyebrows that some skullduggery is going on. However, if the APA handicapping system does its job, it's perfectly feasible that a first place team might finish down the table a bit the following season. Don't worry too much about it. Show up, play hard, coach smart, have fun, and everything else takes care of itself.
