Hi Taz i was wondering if you could put a masters flyer in the envelopes for our area. If you need me to I will run down to Kinkos and get them to you.

Your original post was "is there a possibility of starting up a masters league again". The answer from us is YES. As soon as there is a minimum of 6 teams committed, we'll run it.
As Torsten said, it's not us who are not willing. We will gladly run a Masters division (or any other format our members would like to try). The problem is in finding enough players willing to travel. Most of our members consider a 20 minute drive a "traveling league" and not worth the time/effort/gas.
Montrose to Ojai is out of the question; however, we could run a Ventura County division. Still, within Ventura County, Camarillo players don't want to drive to Ventura and TO players don't want to drive to Ojai.
On a personal note, I would love to have a Masters division. Since the Masters play without skill levels, I can get Phil out of the house ( , that doesn't sound nice) to play a little pool. He never complains, but I know he misses the game and the competition. Besides, he needs to get in some more practice if he is to win the League Operators (only) tournament.
Bottom line...YES, we'll run it, but you and anyone else interested will have to do a bit of the leg work to get this off the ground. I can come up with a flier for you if you want to get out there on league night and distribute it to the higher skill levels and see what you can do.

Sure. We'll bring it up. Thing is, it gets brought up frequently. The awareness that we did at one point have a Masters division is there. It's not a lack of awareness that makes it difficult. It's purely logisitic.

The last time there was a masters division, I think it was 4-player teams, and 3 of those people play. The logistical problem you'd run into is this. Add up all of the SL6s and SL7s in our Thousand Oaks area. You have to figure at least half of them wouldn't be able/willing to play. They either have other teams on whatever night, don't want to play another night, their wives/husbands don't want them to play another night, a bartending job or something of that nature requiring night work , and a host of other potential obstacles. So, we have to have players from other areas. Camarillo, Ojai, the Valley, etc. These folks have the same obstacles, only they'd likely have to drive even farther than we would. Motivation goes down. Believe me, I'd love to play in a Masters division. I love playing strong players. I'm still fairly new in what are considered the higher tiers of skill level so most of the other 6,7s etc have been at that level longer than me so I learn something new all the time. Still, though, I don't think it's likely any time soon.

If we do, keep me in mind for your team, Keith. However, I wouldn't count on it any time soon. There is a severe logisitcal difficulty in doing a Masters league. There aren't enough players who are qualified, willing, and able to play in masters in the Thousand Oaks area to make a league. You would have to incorporate the entire southcoast region to get a decent sized division going, and that presents a lot of travel that a lot players won't be willing/able to do. I'll tell ya, I can hardly blame someone for not wanting to drive out to Montrose from Ojai, shoot pool and drink beer until midnight, and then drive home.
