If you remember the problems with the Tree House, I'm surprised they don't close it down at 4pm! If I'm not mistaken, The Yank has taken that spot...

I wonder what their logic is about 11pm closing. All that means is that the drunk people are on the road 3 hours earlier.

Simi Valley set the 11pm closing time as a condition of issuing their liquor license....they have to go a years with out trouble then the city will consider extending the license to 2 am.
It's just Simi's way of welcoming new businesses to the area.
They believe in making it as difficult as possible and that way only the strong survive.

Make a deal? Isn't this the same guy that got tired of the APA in Canoga and started charging big green fees? He told the players that if you do not like it you can leave. It would be nice to have another establishment in the area but maybe this is not the best choice. Plus why the 11pm closing time? |

Anyone wishing to host a team out of Yankee Doodles in Simi can call Tony Cicero - Lead Manager - 805-526-1130
He told me yesterday (6/4/07) that he wants teams and he will make you a deal. Call him and talk to him.
They have 2 bar tables and 4 Eight footers.
You will want to discuss the fact that they close at 11 PM
That might become an issue if your matches drag on too long.

Before they ever opened, the Yankee Doodles in Simi Valley was in contact with us about hosting APA teams, because they have teams already in their Woodland Hills location. They know about the APA and would be happy to host teams.
What many location owners don't understand is that we do not recruit teams for specific locations. We can't. We can go to a location and help them with some sort of recruitment event, but that's about as far as we can go with recruitment for a specific location. Sometimes a team will call us looking for a place to play. When that happens, we provide them with a list of locations in their area that have room for more teams on the night they want to play, and ask them to choose a location. We also ask them to contact the location to make sure the location is ok with another team on that night. Usually that's just a formality.
Bottom line, if a location wants to host teams they should contact us and make sure we are aware of that fact and on what nights. Yankee Doodles has done that. If they want us to help them recruit teams, we can help but they have to be willing to do the main part themselves. If they want us to recruit teams and bring them to their location, they are setting themselves up for disappointment. Those locations who actively recruit members and teams for themselves end up with packed houses on league night, and those who don't will end up missing out.

I hope we'll see several teams out of YD's soon. Since I live in Simi it would be convenient for us to play there.

As far as getting a BAR to have a team, get the owner involved. Southcoast region is ALWAYS on the lookout for new locations to play out of, especially in the Thousand Oaks area. When I first started as a team captain, I just called one of my local watering holes which had a couple of tables and asked the owner if he'd be willing to be a host location. My sales pitch was basically this. In exchange for you opening up your tables for us, each team will give you five bucks at the end of the night, plus you get at least ten people in here on league night that wouldn't otherwise be here. And the folks on my team... well, let's just say we like to put 'em back so you'll sell some extra booze. You'd be hard pressed to find a bar owner that wouldn't be willing to have an extra dozen or so people in his/her establishment on a given Monday or Tuesday.

Find 5 - 8 people who would like to play organized pool, who would be dependable about showing up each and every week or any combination of the 8, notify the League Office thru this Message Board, by telephone (the number is somewhere here on the site)or by email (also somewhere here) and tell them you want to start a team. They will ask where your playing out of (the new bar), where it is located etc. etc. and then will add you to the Division either 8Ball or 9Ball. Phil and Taz will then provide you all the information that you will need on a weekly basis. |
