I was wondering if the handicap software accounts for players winning or losing by 8-ball scratches,and weather or not that affects their skill level.I just don't think it would be right if a player went up or down because of scratches. |

I don't profess to know anything about the formula used to determine players' skill levels. Still, given a little time, all things even out pretty much as they should. We've all had players on our teams at some point who we believed were probably rated too high for their assigned level. Look at it like a promotion and a challenge. A lot of players get nervous/scared/apprehensive when they move up a level. Tell your players in these situations, the league believes you can play and compete at this level. Often times, the player may take a lump or two along the way but they rise to the challenge.
We've all given away games and matches with careless or unlucky 8 ball scratches. We've also received games and matches this way. I can safely say that winning a match in this fashion isn't anyone's preferred method of victory. But it's part and parcel of the game and you just have to kinda move on.

There is an adjustment made (part of the mathematical formula used) when scoring matches that involve an early 8, 8-Ball scratch or 8-Ball break. |

I agree it is unfortunate to win by your opponent scratching on the 8-ball especially if they do it several times in a match.
Something else I have been thinking about along those same lines is ball in hand. If a player gets a lot of ball in hands, and not necessarily from well played defensive shots, but from their opponent scratching, it can make a match look a lot more lopsided than it really was.
I have a player on one of my teams that gets 6 or 7 ball in hands every match. I don't know why, his opponents just seem to scratch a lot. This leads to him winning quit easily and with low innings. This can cause a player to advance in skill level quicker than they might have of otherwise.
I don't know if this is something to look at or not, I just wanted to bring it up.

I understand that,I just think it's a bummer that if a player wins a match without winning a game that it affects them. |

Winning on scratches is considered when we score the matches. Sometimes, however, the simple fact that the player won is enough to cause the skill level to change. In these cases, the player was close to going up anyway, so don't look at it as one match that caused them to go up. It's always an accumulation of matches.
