We had a situation the other night,and it was brought to my attention that a lot of players did not or do not know about this rule.So for those who do not know here it is.We were finishing up our third match and I decided it was a good time to go for a smoke.By the time I returned we were about 2 or 3 racks into our fourth match,when I noticed that the player on the other team was the third SL6 that the other team had put up.I was pretty sure but not positive that(YOU CANNOT DO THIS),so we did what we were supposed to do and called the office to be sure.It turned out that we were correct,you are only allowed a max of 2 senior SL may it be  -ball 6-7 or nine-ball 6-9 regardless of the 23 rule.so for those who didn't know BE CAREFULL the end result is a forfeit. |

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the picture. What we have is someone who simply does not believe in the handicap system. Winning a match does not automatically raise someone's skill level. There are at least 15 other factors that make up the formula that calculates skill levels. The win or loss is but one of those factors.
Although rare, players have won a match one week and the following week they find their skill level has gone down and vice-versa (lost a match and skill level went up). This is due to the average of all matches in their record. One match alone does not raise or lower anyone's skill level, except for brand new players.
PS There are only 12 active SL9s in the entire league. |

this is my last post then i am going to go to sleep...
as any good investigator should do when presenting a case... "DO YOUR HOMEWORK"...
on the webside for SOUTHCOAST APA... ( 00.01 percent error)....there are 94 teams in 9 ball with approx 740 players and
there are ONLY 16 ... 1's (no error) ... in the ENTIRE league and they have ALL won games it is almost the END of the session and they are STILL 1's.... what is wrong with this picture??

....and there's no NEED to raise the skill level limit.
You are correct, there is only one SL1. There is also only one SL9. There are only 6 SL2s and there is only one SL8.
You are beating a dead horse, but that is your prerogative, after all, it is a free country. |

just a follow up to the need to raise the limit...
I play on a thursday night 9 ball league and checked the rosters...there is ONLY ONE person rated a 1 on the entire roster and that person has won HALF of her games and there are ONLY 6 two's in the entire thursday night league and some of those have gone back and forth from 2 to 3 to 4 and back to a 2 |

by the middle of the season, there should be NO 1's in nineball ..."unless they are sandbagging".........and the "computer" can not see them play
lets raise the 9 ball to a limit of 25 !!!!

It only applies to 9-Ball because you don't have 1's in 8-Ball. Therefore, the combined skill level total for the three seniors in 8-Ball can't exceed 19, but in 9-Ball the three seniors could total 21.

I'm interested as to why it's in the 9 ball rules and not in the 8 ball ? What is the actual purpose of the rule ? If it stops you loading a team with good players then I would have thought it would be more applicable to 8 ball . My only other thought is that it has something to do with the scoring system in 9 ball ?

Don't quite understand why any ruling given by the league office should turn into an argument amongst players, especially those who claim to be friends, be that as it may, allow me to clarify.
1) This rule applies to 9-Ball only.
2) It is clearly written in the Office APA Team Manual and has been there since I became a league operator 13 years ago. It is not new nor should it surprise anyone who has taken the time to read the manual.
Every team captain is provided with a current Official Team Manual at no cost. The Official Team Manual is revised and updated every two years and all Team Captains are given the new manual when it is published and released (next updated manual will be out for the upcoming summer session).
Any player who wishes to do so may purchase his or her own copy of the Official Team Manual at the minimal cost of $2. The Manual is also available online (here on this site) and anyone who wishes to may simply print it.

I'm pretty sure then that it doesn't apply to 8 ball , although I'm not sure why it wouldn't . You still have a 23 rule in both formats . I've never played 9 ball so have no idea of the differences . |

We were playing 9-ball,so to be perfectly honest I cannot be positive on what the 8-ball ruling may be.When I posted the first comment, I was still a bit frustrated with the drama that happened after the call was made.It turned into a bad argument between friends that I felt was unnecessary & pointless. |

Sharpshooter , were you playing 8 or 9 ball when this ruling was made ? As that rule does not seem to apply in 8 ball or it was simply left out of the Manual by error . I believe there is an updated version being supplied for the next session . |

I found this rule only to apply to 9-ball. Page 61, Section 6,
"General 9-ball Rules", Item "A", paragraph 2.

"Only two senior skill level players may play in any given
team match. Senior skill level players are players who
have a skill level of 6, 7, 8, or 9. If an ineligible (by this
rule) player is chosen to play, then a violation of this
rule officially occurs when the balls are broken in that
player’s match. The ineligible player forfeits the match
and the teams go on to the next player match. Both
players’ skill levels count towards the 23-Rule for that
match. On the other hand, once the team match is
over and either team has left the match site, or the
scoresheets are signed by both Team Captains, the match
would stand as played even if an ineligible player has competed."
I found this by using the online manual and searching for the word "senior". |

Again , if anybody can show me where that rule is in the Manual , Bye laws , etc , cos' it's a bit like my car keys , I CAN"T FIND THEM !  |
