There is a player on the team I play for that is a 3 , she leadss the MVP 2/3 tier going intto the last week . My question is if she were to win inthe final week and the consequence of that win raises her SL to a 4 , does she still rank in the 2/3 catagory being that she played the final match , and thus the end of the season as a 3 ?

As the author of this post I'd like to say that the way the MVP is ran here is excellant and very fair . The league I played in in NYC didn't tell you how an MVP was compiled and on one occassion I know of went to a player that had played just 4 times in the season ! I believe there is an end of season "championship" for MVP's as well , again nothing that our LO's need to do .
The other thing we need to think about is what is the MVP ? If it were really a competition to get the most points then wouldn't it be fair that we have an MVP for those players that have played 10 times in a season and those that have played 9 etc etc , ridiculous of course .
The MVP in my mind and I'm sure I'll be corrected by someone but this is my opinion , is the player that turns up to play more often , is valued by his/her team and therefore plays more often , and wins against tougher competition . I've been fortunate enough to be on a team that allows me to play every week and consequently I've racked up more points than anyone else , but I'm definately not the best player in my division .
If anything , the only change I'd like to see is an award for those players that dutifly turn up each week but do not get to play as often as their team mates ,but I don't know how that could be done . If I sat on the sidelines for the majority of games I'd probably quit and play pool elsewhere , so I have the utmost respect for those that are in that situation .

[br]here is a quick fix solution that will solve the problem... do away with the points system and give each player one point for every match won but still use the handicap system to determine the number of games to win during the match

What exactly does this "fix"?

Movistar, just because you (and a few others) don't agree with the way in which we run our MVP program, it does not mean there is a problem -- it simply means you don't agree. We are not required to have MVPs or MVP tournaments at all. It is something we like to do for our players and works rather well for most. We thoroughly researched other areas MVP programs and developed ours in what we believe to be the fairest way possible when applied to the vast majority, not the vocal few. It is what it is, and it won't be changing any time soon.

Calcwby4u, while it is absolutely improper to approach another player and suggest they throw a match, this would not work unless the player asked agrees to do so. No one can cajole another into something unless they are (at some level) willing. Having said that, how about reporting the player who does the approaching and allowing the proper sanctions to be imposed on said player? Oh yeah, no one wants to report anyone, they rather just post and whine about it.

Or how about not approaching a member of the opposite team and cajole them into throwing a match so that you and get the high SL points to overtake the 1st place player.

And how would you control a player setting it up to play the opponent's weakest player?

[br]a question along this line...
what if a skill level 6 was leading in his bracket all season with 40 MVP points on the last week of play and a skill level 5 was leading his bracket with 65 points and got bumped to a 6 would that make his point total replace the other leader on the LAST DAY of session?
and make him the winner of the 6-7 bracket?
what happens to the former leader?

The 5 who shot himself up to a 6 wins the tier. The former leader finishes second.

Before the cries of NOT FAIR begin, ask yourself what if the 5 went up on the second to last week of the session? Would it be fair then? What about the third to last week? What if he moves up after the second to last week, then loses a match in the final week and moves back down, replacing the then-current leader of the 4-5 tier? What if the 6 had just gone up a week or two prior? There are many different scenarios where a player moving from one tier to another will affect the MVP standings in both tiers. Checking them all would be impossible, and checking even one of them is extremely difficult. So, we process the final week, update all skill levels, and declare the winners.

Final regular season standings are not current until after the last regular team match is played, scored, reviewed and all skill levels are updated, which include the last match played. The MVP list will then be updated and players will be listed in the tier that corresponds with their updated skill level.

Just to be certain , I'm not asking whether or not she will go up to a 4 , more , how it effects the MVP list . It seems to me to make sense that if she finishes the season and plays the last game as a 3 that on the MVP list for that season , which is now over , she would be a 3 . Obviously if we went to the playoffs she would play as a 4 , but when does the season finish for those teams that don't make the playoffs ?

Even sitting the player out might not be guaranteed, as there are other ways for scores to sneak into the player's record (other nights, singles boards, etc.).

Nope. The only way to guarantee the player's skill level doesn't change (up or down) the last week of the session is to sit the player out.
