Posted - 05/26/2008 : 7:57:05 PM I keep hearing "rumors" that our esteemed operators Taz and Phil narrowly missed out on winning national honors for their contributions to the APA based on the criterion of "League Growth."
This got me thinking. (please keep the "i thought I smelled smoke" and similar comments to yourselves. ) Why don't we plan some kind of event. Nothing too complicated, but bear with me for a moment.
There's a large insurance company (who will remain nameless in case I screw up some info) that has an annual event called XXXXXXXXXExpo. The point is basically to generate interest in their services and put them at a higher place on the totem pole than their competitors.
Well, there are plenty of things that people do during the week recreationally or as a hobby. I see people all the time on league nights who ask "Hey, is this a league? How do you sign up?" I always provide them with the website and all the information they need, but only a few it seems ever follow through.
What if we put together an APA Tournament/Expo. Tournaments, maybe we can weasel a local bar to offer discounted drinks, perhaps some of our more experienced players can volunteer to give brief lessons to interested people, etc. We can make flyers and maybe include them in a team packet for a week, and have the team captains pass out the flyers at the locale where their team plays. Comments, anyone?

Sounds like a great plan....one that I like - I have some ideas & will try to get a hold of you Sunday at the T.O.C.. Both of our teams qualified & I think we meet in round 2 provided we win in the morning.
btw...I'm trying to convince our mutual Simi Valley Postman friend to come out this Sunday & check out the action at the Arena. We will see if he shows, MikeR is not much of a morning guy.
