Not to be outdone by the higher skill levels, this group of players came out and showed everyone what good sportsmanship is all about. Most matches were close calls with the winner decided by one of two balls and in hill-hill matches, yet the camaraderie displayed was awesome. Congratulations to first time participant and runner-up Shelly Strauss. Shelly qualified as a SL2 and went up to a SL3 this past week. Shelly came in to the event and certified herself as a SL3 (even though she had NEVER played a match as a SL3 before). Hats off to Shelly for doing the right thing. How much easier might it have been to certify herself as a SL2? The pool gods must have been watching, as Shelly found herself in the final match and came ever so close to winning it all.

Congratulations Ted Nunez. Ted has made the regional level several times now, but instead of giving up, he persevered and is now on his way to the 2008 National Singles Championships, May 1-3 in Las Vegas.
