After reading the descriptions of all the performance shafts Can some one explain to me why the Mcdermott G core is half the price of the Mcdermott Intimidator, Predator , and OB?
Isn't the object to make the object ball? But yes you are right the leave would be awesome if it was your shot. |

It all depends where you get the shaft from as far as price goes. The difference they are claiming is that it has three layers outer (wood) middle (carbon fiber) inner (wood). They say that it enhances the feel of the game but it probably feels like shooting with a cuetec. Predator, OB and Tiger all have multiple pieces of wood glued together under a lot of pressure. These are done in different ways from pie wedges to crescent shapes that fit together to a square piece surrounded by four other pieces. They all have a different feel and deflect a different amount. As far as the other Mcdermott shafts go. I was not able to find out what they are made of or the shapes of any pieces. They also seem like a gimmick rather than a high performance shaft. I have shot with a bunch of cues and my favorite was one made by Brady. If you don't like the idea of waiting a year for your cue then ask your friends and opponents if you could take a couple shots with their cues to find the one you like. |

To clear this up before anyone jumps on my back about it. I have not shot with the new Mcdermott shafts and their explanations seem to be poised for an infomercial. I was not calling the other shafts gimmicky just the Mcdermott ones because they just don't seem right in the explanations. |

I just purchased a new McDermott G core last week at the Nationals. It performed very similar to the 0 deflection shafts I have bought from Lucasi and an independent custom cue maker, Ned Morris, from Palm Springs area. All three of these shafts performed about the same, as far as I could tell. I had asked a number of more experienced players to try them out and give me their opinion. I got more positive reactions from the G core in a very short period of time than I have over the other two. The one point that was expressed on all three was that when you change to a low deflection shaft, it takes time to adjust to it. As for me, I love the new G core and I seem to shoot a "little" better with it. But then who really knows! The McDermott rep. at the Nationals had some "BLEMS" with him. A dark mark 1/4" long 1/16" wide on one spot on the shaft. OMG, $75 for a G core....I bought it thinking , it's not the looks it's the felling that counts.

How is the feel though? The description makes it sound like it feels like crap. If it feels great and does what you want then it is great. |
