First congratulations to all the winners, no matter what region they are a member of. Anybody that travels this path and gets to the end should be congratulated.
Second thanks to Phil and Taz for giving the orrputunity. Lots of hours, lots of stuff done in the back, just wanted you two to know your efforts are appreciated.
Now that the important comments are out the way, just some random thoughts. There were lots of oppurtunities to watch various skill level matchups. Most were decided in the last rack by who made or missed shot. That in my mind validates the handicap system.
Watching others play and actually learning something from that play requires active processing, something I will pay more attention to in future.
Subpar playing doesnt necessarily mean you suck, consider how many players didnt make it to this level, not to mention didnt try.
The oppurtunity to meet new people never grows old, getting reaccquainted is also fun.
Competitiveness only works if there is someone to compete against, what can be done to increase the pool you are competing in?
Am rambling probably but putting the thoughts down in writing makes it easier to not let random thoughts keep me awake.

| I agree that most of us benifet from watching others play especially higher ranked players. If anyone was watching my second match against Jon Bourgalt (sorry about the spelling Jon) they saw a fantastic defensive match. Jon used defence to keep me off the table and get a few ball in hands. I was shooting pretty well but Jon did not let me beat him, by not letting me shoot. They say defence wins championships, well at least this time it won a match. I preach to my players the importance of defensive play. I wish I had a video of that match to show them. My hat is off to you Jon. Very well done!!! |

I'd like to throw my 2 cents worth in here.
As a player who knows what it is like to play well at times and then NOT so well at other times, I got a taste of some real competition this week end. Even though I got whupped severely I saw one of the players who got me "get got" himself afterwards.
That was a bit of an eye opener.
The field was tough and those who played persistently well moved forward and the rest of us did not. I believe I saw the handicap system working and I saw players who played great without regard to the rankings of themself or their opponents.
Unfortunately those who played great did not always win but they should still be proud of their own performance win or lose. Winning is not and should not be the only measure of a great performance.
Congratulations to the winners but congratulations and kudos to those who played really good but came out on the losing side of the matches. Character building usually takes place when we lose. It doesn't take near as much inner strength to be humble after winning as it takes to be gracious after defeat.

First off, i was saying congradulations to my wife that traveled to Bakersfield (Made possiable by Taz and Phil, and they know why!)for this years chance to go to Nationals. So we were the only MEMBERS from South Coast out there thats why i didnt congradulate any one else.
PLEASE RELAX, I wasn't talking about the Tourment held at the MIX.

Just wanted to thank Phil & Taz for a very well run & organized tournament. I especially liked the fact that you called the "on deck" matches and that they were already assigned a specific table, that way you could either keep an eye on that table to see when the match in progress was completed or you were free (for at least 45 minutes) to go take a walk, order food, or whatever without being a prisoner in the bar so as not to miss being called to "come play right now". The "sign out" sheet is also a great idea to use once you have finished a match where you probaly will have at least an hour before you are called "on deck" again.
