I recently meandered up to Simi Valley to shoot some pool & overheard a couple of sixes whining to each other about losing over and oc=ver again to the wild jack shot. They would not tell me what it is......once again I ask the scapa for help
!
What is this Wild Jack they speak of?

| I believe you mean the "madjack" shot and 6's (and sometimes 7's) tend to lose a lot to it. The "madjack" shot can be a variety of different shots but nobody can do them quite like Madjack, usually at PJ's... Even when you see one of them, it's hard to believe... |

Yep,
Jack Murray's probably right.
Mad Jack is on a couple of teams in Thousand Oaks and almost everyone is on his list of victories ( I am one of the people he has beat more than once).
He is ranked a 4 now and has improved a great deal over those first few years when he laid claim to the "Mad Jack Shot". It is often a shot that is fully intended to do an incredibly difficult feat but in fact accomplishes a feat even more incredibly difficult (sometimes making the originally intended feat and sometimes not) and sometimes the feat accomplished is on the edge of impossible to do any other way.
Mad Jack has won a LOT of matches as a result of those kind of shots.
They have happened to the extent that they are no longer considered lucky but instead have been locally named a "MAD JACK SHOT".

| I would say most people that play in TO have been "Mad Jack'd" at least once. In fact when Mad Jack does his magic and whoops up on a player we welcome them into the MJC (Mad Jack Club) our membership roster is quite long and distinguished. |

I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned this. The funniest thing of all about the Mad Jack shot is that it's famous. I heard a story from a Southcoast member (can't remember who) who was in Vegas for a Southwest Challenge a couple of years ago, and overheard a couple of guys from Philadelphia (or some other East coast city) lamenting about getting "mad jacked". Hysterical.

I think I've probably "drunk John'd" a few people and been "drunk John'd" by others as well.... I used to call it the "one eye'd Torsten". Any name-similarity to anyone we know is purely coincidental...  |

| I don't think we ever played each other when either of us has been that bad off but I'm pretty sure we've each tipped back a few (more than we planned) and then miraculously played pretty well. In fact maybe that's what I need to try next time seeing as you have clobbered me the last few times we played.... hmmmm note to self... |

Funny story. I'll leave the names out of it to defend the innocent. Apparently, about 3 seasons ago, I played the match of my life against a very high ranked player, defeating him quite handily. Thing is, the next week, I had no recollection. I vaguely remembered showing up to pool and the next morning, I woke up at home. Now, I've been known to imbibe a bit of what I like to call "aiming fluid" but not usually this much. The conversation with my teammate went something like this.
Teammate: You played incredibly last week.
Me: I.....did?
Teammate: Yeah, it seemed like you didn't miss a single shot.
Me: Oh... well.... uh... even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then.
Teammate: No. You were on. You were......focused.
Me: You sure I was focused? I might have just been trying really hard not to fall over.

Well first of all Madjack doesn't beat everyone every time. The second thing is that the Madjack shot isn't the kind of finnesse shot that knocks the object ball (or any ball for that matter) in every time and leaves one with terrific shape. There is a certain amount of "randomness of success" with this shot and when you face Madjack you just can't help but hope that he doesn't have the Madjack mojo with him that night. But if he does, get ready to shake his hand and congratulate him before his team starts swarming him with high fives after you've become a member of the club. And finally, there are a lot of people in the Madjack club so any attempt to meet all the brothers and sisters of said club would probably be impossible.
