Two Parts to this post , Part One :
I'm a 5 and recently beat two 6's , one on Wednesday , he really didn't bring his "A" game , and one on Sunday , who was so loaded a doubt if he could even say "A" game let alone play it ,( you know who I'm talking about Taz ). The point is should I go up to a 6 because my opponent is impaired by alcohol ?( Idon't know if I will ) I don't mind the guy that doesn't play his best game but somebody that's boozed up directly affects my rank . So I'd like to make this suggestion , we have a breathalizer at every match and if a player is deemed "loaded" their performance does not impact their opponents rank , either that or we have a minimum alcohol content for all players just to level the playing field .

And if you take that post seriously then you need to drink more .

Part Two : On Sunday I played at PJ's , the tables were faster , flatter and greener than the tables I'm used to in Ojai . Taz made the comment that they are probably the best tables in the region , personally I thought the cushions were a bit lively , but obviously that's in comparison to what I'm used to . My question is , what makes a good table ? Espiecially the cushions , what is the correct amount of "bounce" ? This part of the post you can take seriously , but I'd like the laymans version rather than the coefficient of the tangent on the white ball version !

Thanks

Rick

Rick as a rule of thumb:
When you shoot the cue ball from the head spot to the foot rail (aiming center ball on the cue ball) at break speed it should rebound the length of the table 4 times.

Of course there are lots of factors that effect this simple measure but it is a fairly good test of table speed and you can do it in one or two shots just before you play a match.

One of those variables might be the size of your biceps ! Interesting way of judging the table . Thanks

I think whatever number you blow in the breathlizer should bring your skill level down that much...

For example. SKILL LEVEL 6 blows a 1.8 he or she would be a 4 for the night!!!

I'll play anyone who blows a 1.8 straight up - 9's included.

Be careful Jack if you bet money on that kind of game!
I have seen people who play better when they are so drunk they can barely stand.....in my younger days I might have been one of them.

I'm only thinking logically Tom. At any given moment after 7:00 (sometimes am) I'll blow a 0.8 - this can be verified with many of our local law inforcement authorities. I've managed to make my way up to a 6 using this scientific technique (doesn't make much sense but it looks good on paper). Now, most of the 9's I know don't drink when they're shooting (I find that fact fascinating and hard to believe btw). Imagine how good they'd REALLY be with a little aiming fluid. Bottom line is me shooting at a BAC of 0.8 (okay it has been known to get higher than that on rare occasion) and a 9 who is not accustomed to playing pool with a BAC of 1.8 could be taken. Ready Richard or Erwin? I think I'm ready for side bets.

D-Rack ,using that formula I know a few 2's that simply wouldn't have to play at all to win a match !

Jack , are you the 7 I played on Sunday ?

I have never seen anyone play better when they are drunk. I think the drinking just makes you forget how bad you really shot. As far as drinking versus skill level, for me it goes down by one for every drink. No bet Jack, your skill level stays the same no matter how much you drink (but it does not get better).

No Rick, that wasn't me. If we were in Vegas and at the Riviera and it was midnight or later I'd say it sounds like it could have been me- but no. Good luck in future tourney's and I hope that match didn't effect your S/L.

The Sunday match hasn't been scored yet, so at least you know it wasn't the drunk. Maybe after we score that you'll go up to a 7...
