What if Bill Gates called you up, said, "I would like to offer you a job. I will pay you what you need to support yourself, your family (if you ever get one, you know who I am talking about, lol!) and the job will go on for the rest of your life until you retire with a 401k package that resembles a Corp. CEO Severance package."
"But! It has to be a job somewhat related to Billiards."
What job would you take?
you know, you would think I would get tired of hearing, "you're right Bernardo" but I don't. LOL. |

Hmmm, interesting, Tom. I don't think I'm in that boat with you though. If Bill Gates is footing the bill, I think I would like to be the guy in charge of growing the sport of billiards to the proportions that the sport of golf enjoys today.
To really grow the sport, I believe two things have to happen. First, you have to create new venues for play, venues that do not rely on the sale of alcoholic beverages to make a profit. That means you have to define a new market and persist until that market takes root. You can't do that if you have to make money too.
Second, you have to get the sport into high schools nationwide, maybe even into middle schools. It's a great alternative sport that doesn't require a big budget or even top-notch athletes to be competitive. But to champion this cause requires a lot of time and dedication, something that's not possible if little things like making a living get in the way. But if Bill's paying...
Not until these things happen will you see the sport start to pick up corporate sponsorships, which in turn leads to greater interest and grass-roots type of growth enjoyed by sports like golf. But the guy who does it will have to be someone who's independently wealthy or has a backer like Bill Gates footing the bill.

Why don't we all get together a petition and send it attached to a request to Bill Gates asking him to support the efforts described by Phil.
Maybe we could also send that same request with petition attached to other wealthy people around the world.
I saw an announcement not too long ago that Bill Gates is no longer the richest guy in the world. Here is the url to the article from the NY Times: Buffett Beats Gates to Become World’s Richest Person March 6, 2008, 7:21 am http://dealbook.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/03/06/buffett-beats-gates-to-become-worlds-richest-person/

How does a jacuzzi work underwater?

Thank you Kerry, I didn't want to be the one to ask.
