Hi Phil,
I was just wandering if it is possible to introduce this function to the future regional competition, when people ask a shot to be watched? Ie. would it be possible for the person to hold a camcorder to film the shot? It would bring peace of mind to the the player/team that felt they had a clean shot but was ruled otherwise.

As far as I know, there is nothing in our by-laws or APA Team Manual that stops you from video taping a match. The only exception I could think of would be if there was a "professional" there that wants paid for such.
First, an official decision by the person designated to watch the hit is just that...the official decision. If you don't trust the person to call the shot, don't ask them.
Second, the only thing I can see that this (video taping) would accomplish would be to give someone the ability to "b*tch" about a possible bad break, much as we see in professional sports now.

Interesting idea but impractical. A ball traveling at about 5 miles/hour would move about 3 inches between every video frame. The camera would miss the point of contact. It would take a very special high speed camera, and lighting to be able to make a good judgement. It's certainly an interesting idea, but I agree with Richard that it's impractical. Not just from a technological standpoint, but from a time standpoint. Especially in regionals, matches tend to take a bit longer because there is no "we'll get 'em next week". Every shot has the potential to be critical. Often times, sudden death is looming. I think video replay would be requested far too often in cases where it wouldn't be anything resembling necessary, and make sudden death a probability instead of just a possibility.

| I would certainly hope not. I don't know about anyone else but I trust Phil and Taz or anyone else designated by the league to be as fair and impartial as HUMANLY possible. It's about sportsmanship - not perfection. |

I couldnt agree more. Having just competed in regionals that message was drove home. I played on 2 teams, one lost first round the other is heading to Vegas. For the most part I had fun on both teams, and it became less enjoyable when I witnessed or heard things that in my mind wasnt sportmanship, luckily they were few and far between. Win, lose, or draw have fun was the credo I tried to instill in my team. Congrats to all that played and had fun. good sportmanship is 90 percednt of the fun.
