Just wondering if anyone or team did good at Nationals? Curious how the South Coast APA holds up at Nationals. I didn't have the privlage of going.

My 9-ball team from Oxnard went and I have never seen such a sight as when I opened the door to the pool room and saw 100 tables all lined up.
We finished in 129th place. We won our first match but then lost the next two. Our first match was very close, whoever won the final match won the match. Our second match was not as good, but we were a little off our game. Our third match was a total blowout, our opponent shot lights out, and we were done.
It was an amazing experience, but the best part of all was finding out how well our league operators treat us compared to the others. Phil and Taz made us feel special. Taz made each of the teams a survival kit with all kinds of goodies in it. We got probably 10 comments on it from other teams. they would say stuff like "our operators don't do things like that for us" or "could you tell your league operator to tell ours to make those for us".
I think if my team would have been shooting like they normally do we would stack up real well with the other teams I saw play. But that is hard to say, because anyone can get hot or cold. |

nice............... Congradulations to you and your team..... Sounds Like TAZ & Phil doing everthing they can to give our teams the LEGAL edge. Thanks for the reply............... Good Luck next year if yoiu get back.........  |

Just to add to Kerry's post - I believe the team that lost to Knights of Camelot in the first round ended up finishing fifth overall. Isn't that them on poolplayers.com Kerry?
All of our teams had a great time, even if they didn't get as far into the tournament as they had hoped. It's a very competitive event (as a National Championship should be), and you have to shoot your best to advance - if you don't, someone else will. As evidenced by Kerry's team's win over the eventual fifth-place finisher, South Coast teams CAN compete with the rest of the country. It's just a matter of stringing the good matches together.
We are also very proud of the fact that six of our seven teams were nominated for the sportsmanship award by their opponents!

No Phil we played a team from Spokane Washington in our first match.
Which team did not get nominated for the sportsmanship award? Or which teams did?

My mistake. It must have been Kelly's team that played the team in red from Jacksonville. That was a close match too.
I don't know which teams were nominated for sportsmanship. The APA folks just told us six of our teams were nominated, which was an unusually high number for one area.

Parroting what Phil and Kerry my 8 ball team had a ball and would have gone farther if we could have strung one more better played match. Or last match, with matches tied 2-2, came down to a question of focus. Match went hill/ hill , my opponent missed an eight ball cut , and I needed to cut a ball in the side and pocket the 8 ball. This is after being down 2-0 and coming back to 2-2 hill match.. With the clarity of 20/20 hindsight I didn’t focus on the side pocket shot and missed it thinking it was gimme. Lesson lerned <sp> NO shot is gimme. My team took the loss much better than I did, that’s the advantage of having an awesome Was an awesome time despite how it came out, and Phil and Taz are commended for their support. The survival kit was the envy of every team we played Already having strated palnning for when we get there next year

What was in this survival kit we keep hearing about?
Some of us were not lucky enough to be there and get one 1st hand but we'll look forward to it next time.
