I have talked to a lot of players in the APA who would like to see the points system changed for the MVP rating.
how bout making it ONE point for each match win so that more higher level players could play 1-2 -3-4& 5 and not have to worry about the points???
it is still a handicap race, so that wouldn't matter in the match.
a 2 can play a 6 or 7 and win a lot of points but a 6 or 7 can only win 2 points... is this fair? |

I have been a 6 or 7 for about a year now and have never lost to a 2 and only a couple of times to a 3. So Yeah I think it is fair.
I know I get irritated when I have to play a low level player, but it is what it is. You become an mvp because you can beat the people you play no matter what the skill level. |

6's and 7's aren't competing against 2's in the MVP race anyway, so who cares if they get 7 points while the 7 gets 2 points?

if a 6 or 7 is fortunate enough to get to play a 6 or a 7 , it is great... however the points a person earns while playing a 2 is STILL only 2 points instead of earning ONE POINT per match won which would be a very FAIR method for EVERYONE >
under the existing format, a player could win ALL of his matches and still NOT earn MVP.
while another player could conceiveably win only half of his matches and the mvp title.
in response to MR. randolph comment of becoming a mvp winner by beating 2 & 3's is NOT true because you can't garner enough "POINTS" under the existing format.

| I think the current system encourages players to play higher skill level players. Which will make them better players. If you are a 2 or a 3 and can beat a 6 or a 7 you ARE the MVP for the night. It means more than beating someone at your own skill level. And before the 3 tier system I remember more 5's than 6's or 7's at the MVP tournament. |

| How often does a 7 really play a 2? Look at Wed. Camarillo, our #1 MVP player is a 6 and has 39 total points, 12 points away from #2. I think the point system works fine. It does give lower players a chance to be MVP if they win higher ranked players! |

| I think what movistar is saying is it can ruin a 6 or 7s chance for mvp if he or she plays 2 or 3s. Especially at the end of a season. If you are in the hunt for mvp and a team puts a 2 up against you and the person you are in the race for the mvp plays a 6 and you both win than you lose 4 points in the mvp race. I am sure there is a scoring method that would be fair in everyway for everybody. |

I was gonna keep my mouth shut on this one... but those of you that know me know that I can't usually succeed in that for very long. Personally, my priority in 9-ball has always been to get 12 or more points for the team, be it against a SL1 or SL9. The top shooter is a great incentive to perform but I don't think it should be the top priority. Besides, if you're a high ranked player and get matched against a 3, you can still get 3 points for yourself in the top shooter race in addition to getting your team a win. That's exactly 3 more points than you'd get yourself if you got pasted by a fellow high ranked player.
Speaking of which, the Steelers lost again. Does that mean I'm gonna be an 8 next week?

If you are in the hunt for MVP, talk to your captain and don't go in blind on a match. If it's that important to you, wait until you have the best chance to garner the most points.
Leave the system alone.

And as an afterthought......
This is a TEAM league. I think you are focusing too much on the MVP status. Don't know why, but it really doesn't matter.
If you are out to impress someone, have you investigated the singles qualifier program that is going on? EVERYONE in South Coast at this time has the BEST chance they have ever had to advance to the Regional and National singles tournaments.
Check it out....play....and I think your focus may be realized at the ultimate "MVP" level!

Hey Phil and Taz,
I'm going to be out of the country for the rest of the season and was wondering if I could pre-play my next six (6) 9-Ball matches against Torsten before Friday?
There would be no reason to make the scoresheets for us in advance as I still have some blank ones and I have already printed our rosters with the current skill levels...
